The passage continues as you type. Repeated or missing spaces count as errors.

Timing starts with your first character. Backspace to fix mistakes; the clock keeps running.

A short test, with rules you can check

A typing speed test measures how much text you enter within a fixed time. This tool compares your final text with a reference passage and reports two speeds: correct characters per five-character word, and raw speed including unmatched characters. Your text and score stay in this page's memory.

  1. Choose 30 or 60 seconds. Select Prepare test, read the beginning of the passage, and use the typing area. The timer starts with your first accepted character.
  2. Type the reference. Spaces, lowercase letters and punctuation count. Backspace or edit to fix mistakes while the clock keeps running. The reference window advances as you type.
  3. Read your result. At the deadline, text is frozen and the result shows correct WPM, raw WPM and final-text accuracy. Copying the result is optional. Prepare another test to clear it and try again.

How this result is calculated

Here, one standard word means five characters, including spaces and punctuation. Correct WPM is the number of final characters matching the same positions in the reference, divided by five and divided by the duration in minutes. Raw WPM uses all final characters, including unmatched ones. Final-text accuracy is matching characters divided by all final characters, as a percentage.

For example, if 150 characters remain after 30 seconds and 135 match their reference positions, raw speed is 150 ÷ 5 ÷ 0.5 = 60 WPM. Correct speed is 135 ÷ 5 ÷ 0.5 = 54 WPM, and final-text accuracy is 135 ÷ 150 × 100 = 90%. Empty text produces zero values, not an undefined score.

Corrected mistakes no longer reduce final-text accuracy, but the time spent fixing them is included. Repeated, missing or extra spaces are not normalized: an insertion can shift later characters out of position until you fix it. This is final-text accuracy, not a count of every key you pressed.

Know the limits before comparing scores

The reference is an original, repeated English practice passage with lowercase letters, spaces and punctuation. The input accepts printable English characters up to 6000 characters. Paste and drop are blocked to encourage direct typing; this is not an anti-cheating system. Remembering the passage or using software input aids affects what a score means.

Different sites use different error rules, text difficulty, word lists and rounding. Correct WPM here is a stated practice metric, not a universal net-speed standard. Do not use the result as an employment certificate, identity check or verified ranking.

A physical keyboard is the clearest way to compare your own repeated runs. Touchscreen keyboards, suggestions and autocorrection can change results even when the page requests that they be disabled. Browser simulations do not prove every phone keyboard works identically.

Questions about your test

When does timing start and stop?

It starts with the first accepted character after you prepare a test. It ends at the selected 30 or 60 second deadline. A late timer callback does not give extra typing time, and input received after the deadline is excluded.

Can I fix mistakes?

Yes. Backspace and editing are available. The final characters are compared by position; fixing a mistake improves final-text accuracy, and the clock continues while you do it.

What happens if I switch tabs or leave?

Hiding this page, losing window focus, leaving the test or selecting Cancel test cancels an active run. It does not create a score. Prepare a new test when you are ready; there is no pause-and-resume score.

Why was my input rejected?

This first version accepts printable English characters, including spaces and punctuation. Line breaks, tabs and non-English characters are not supported. An unsupported input is rejected with a visible message. Paste and drop are unavailable for a measured test.

Does the site save my typing or send my score?

No typing history is saved. Your text and score remain in page memory and are cleared when you leave or reload. Optional analytics use only fixed action categories and the chosen 30 or 60 second duration; they do not include text, scores or keystroke traces.

Can this measure touchscreen or IME typing?

The interface adapts to small screens. Composition events are handled before accepting committed text, but native IME behavior and physical phone keyboards remain unverified. A touchscreen result is not directly comparable to a physical-keyboard result.
